Ramblings of the NWA XD
The more things change, the more they stay the same

Well, its been just shy of a week since the new “Monday Night Wars” started, with the dawn of the Hulk Hogan era at TNA. For those who were impressed, I have one question: how low were your expectations? Stop and think. This is 2010 and you have a professional wrestling promotion claiming some type of “new beginning” in a show that features Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, the Nasty Boys, etc., etc. Really? What young talent got pushed? Don’t tell me AJ Styles. AJ is great, but he is an established star—a multi-time world champion. Nigel McGuiness/Desmond Wolfe is clearly  being set up to fail. The Motor City Machine Guns, Beer Money, Inc., were where, exactly? You have an X-Division match—-as usual with non-sensical stipulations and inane results, and then have Jeff Hardy run-in for no rational reason. TNA clearly wants to be WWE. That makes sense, since everyone calling the shots for them used to be with WWE. But please spare me that they are going to present anything (or, more importantly, anybody) that you haven’t seen over and over and over.

Which brings me to Raw. While I love Bret Hart, and seeing him in the ring with Shawn Michaels was momentarily compelling, its a hotshot angle. Bret is obviously just there through Wrestlemania, and is unlikely to be used to build up any of the younger guys (perhaps the Hart Dynasty, we will see). But your main event was Michaels/HHH vs. Jericho/Show. Again. As great as Michaels and Jericho are, they cannot detract from the fact that the WWE is product is beyond stale. I give them credit for Sheamus, but they showed no patience with Kofi Kingston.

What does this all have to do with the NWA? Well, quite a bit actually. But, I’ll get to that in the next couple days.
